Mommy Preschool

With my son starting school this week we have been talking about all the fun stuff he gets to do now that he is in second grade. Because of this my three year old daughter has been talking non stop about going to school also. To her brothers school in fact. After much discussion with her about not being old enough to go to regular school and since we can't afford to send her to a fancy preschool I am going to do a little Mommy preschool at home. I was going to do one with other Moms and switch off days of teaching but I just don't think that I want to give up my time with her just yet. So it is just going to be her and I.
I have been trying to come up with a few simple fun things we can do everyday for our "school". It has been much harder than I anticipated coming up with my own material. But this is the idea that I had. I think that we will focus on a theme like Zoo animals, transportation, ect... and then incoporate letters and shapes and other stuff like that into that theme. I found some great websites that I am going to use for ideas. These are my favorites:

FamilyEducation.com - has ideas for activities from birth up

PreschoolLearningOnline.com-has lots of lesson and theme ideas and coloring pages

Teachers.net- lots of lesson plans and advice from certified teachers

WholesomeToddlerFood.net
- this has a bunch of links to activity sheets and web sites for early learning ideas

These are just a few that I am using but really if you type in free preschool lesson plans or free preschool activities into any search engine then you will get tons of material. The hardest part for me is just sorting though all of it. I think it is worth is though because I know what my daughter is learning and I am able to spend the time with her. I did the same thing with my son when he was little and I really loved it. I think I am more excited than my daughter for Mommy Preschool to start.

Albertson's Rounding Up Event

The rumors were true, Albertson's is testing out rounding coupons to $1.00 instead of doing doubles in the Treasure Valley area. What a disappointment. I have been struggling with the idea of not doing it and hoping that the less people participate then they might get the idea that we like doubles better. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do.

The deal is all coupons rounded to $1.00. One dollar coupons will be taken at face value and coupons $.24 and under will be tripled. Excludes free item coupons. For example a coupon worth $.25 becomes $1.00, a coupon worth $.50 becomes $1.00 ect..

Here are a few ideas if you want to participate:

Act 2 popcorn (3 pack) $.88
use $.40/1 (will be rounded to $1.00)
final: free

Dial Hand Soap $.99
use $.35/1 (will be rounded to $1.00)
final: free

Hunt Tomatoes $.88 each
use $.45/3 (will be rounded to $1.00)
final: $1.64 or $.55 each when you buy 3

Hunts Snack Packs $.88
use $.30/2 (will be rounded to $1.00)
final: $.76 or $.38 each when you buy 2

Kraft Salad Dressing (Ranch or Zesty Italian) $1.34
buy 5
use 5-$.35 off 1 peelie coupons
total: $1.70 or $.34 each
get back $5.00 catalina when you buy 5
final: $3.30 moneymaker

Conagra Promo
Buy 10 items save $5.00 instantly

Buy 10 PAM Cooking sprays $1.99 each
use 10- $.35 off 1 from 8/29 SS (will round to $1.00 each)
final after promo savings: $.99 each

Also don't forget that Ball Park Hot dogs are on sale for $1.99 this week. Use the 2.00/1 coupon (from Facebook if you already printed it) and get them for free.

This should get everyone started thinking for now.

Have A Great Sunday!

I hope that everyone has a great Sunday with lots of time spent with their families. I will be enjoying the day with mine. Especially my son who starts school tomorrow. I can't believe he's in 2nd grade already. Time goes so fast.

Wheatables Tastes Better Than Wheat Thins - Or Your Money Back!

Wheatables claims that their crackers taste better than Wheat Thins Original -- or they will give you your money back!
I personally don't remember Wheatables being that great. I may just have to go buy a box and see. Although they may not have a chance because I really love Wheat Thins!

Target Starting 8/29

Go here to Totally Target she has a list of what is happening at Target next week. I didn't see anything too great so I probably won't be shopping there this week.

Also I have heard rumors that Target has thier Snuggies on clearance for just $7.99. Use the $5.00/1 Varsity Snuggie coupon from here (lower left corner) and possibly get it for just $2.99. (I am unsure if that variety is included in the clearance). It might be worth checking out if you are already going to be there. I wouldn't make a special trip just for this. It's a little to risky for me.

New Corporate Walgreens Coupon Policy

Finally Walgreens is getting it together and released this new corporate coupon policy that can be printed. Now if the cashiers will abide by it then maybe I will start shopping at Walgreens again.

We'll see. I have a particular store I would like to test it on. Hopefully this will make life a lot easier for everyone involved. Go here to view and print your copy. I would recommend carrying it with you when you shop at Walgreens.

Another victory for the coupon shopper!

Thanks Hip2Save for this great info.!

Albertson's Possibly Done with Doublers

When I saw this I was so bummed. I love my double coupons from Albertson's. This is just a rumor but I have a feeling that with Walmart trying so hard to steal away Albertson's business that it might be true. Here's what the Thrifty Mom said:

"Rumors are floating around about the possibility of a new program called “coupon roundup” at Albertsons. I do not know if this is true BUT I have heard it from enough readers that it sounds like we may be the test market Sunday for this. I just wanted to give you a heads up and see what you all thought about it?

Here is one the the comments from one of my readers…

Albertsons doublers are no more because Walmart now accepts them, they will now round up coupons to $1.00 ($0.25/0.50/0.75 now turns into $1.00 at the checkout, no doubler coupons to cut out or steal but nothing will “double” anymore, maxed out at $1.00 per coupon)Sunday is the debut of this new program.

It will be interesting to see how this all works out, and if they put this in place of doubles? I would be really sad if doubles are no longer… Either way we will be able to get thrifty deals and I love Albertsons for that!"

I guess time will only tell as to what will be happening to our doublers.

$.38 Sausages At Winco

We've gotten these before but I just thought that I would mention this again. Go here to Jimmy Deans Facebook page and like them. Then you can print a coupon for $1.00 off any Jimmy Dean product. They have the small boxes of Jimmy Dean sausages for only $1.38 at Winco. So $.38 after the coupon. My husband loves these. I have to admit they are better than others I have had.

High Value Ball Park Coupon

I wouldn't wait to print this high value Ball Park coupon. Like Ball Park on Facebook and then fill in your email address. They will imediately send you a link to print a coupon for $2.00/1 Ball Park product.

The Krazy Coupon Lady also is reporting that thier hot dogs are on sale this week at Albertson's for only $1.99. So free after coupon. I also have seen some Sara Lee buns with coupons to get free buns when you buy any Ball Park product. Free hot dogs and buns. Sounds like a cheap bbq over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend!

Remember to hit your back button and print it twice!

Salad Dressing Week At Albertson's

I just got back from Albertson's and there are tons of salad dressing deals this week.
I am stocked for quite some time.

Ken's Salad Dressing $1.25
use $1.00/1 from
final: $.25

Kraft Salad Dressing $1.34 (only Ranch or Italian)
use $.35/1 peelie coupon
or use $1.00/2 from Fall Savings booklet in stores
pay: $$.99- $.84 each

Kraft Salad Dressing is included in the Kraft Catalina Buy 5 Participating Products get $5.00 OYNO.

Here's the deal:
Buy 5 Kraft Salad Dressings $1.34 each
use 2- $1.00/2 Fall savings coupons
and 1- $.35 /1 peelie coupon
pay: $4.35
Get $5.00 OYNO

It's like making $.65 to buy salad dressing. I love it.
If you can only find the peelie coupons then it would be a $.05 moneymaker. And even without any coupons they are just $.34 each!

Also be on the look out for $1.00 off produce when you buy 2 Kraft Dressings coupons. I found mine by the produce.

I talked to the manager at the five mile and overland store and she said that what they have displayed of the Kraft is all they have with coupons. When I was there they had only a few cases left and tons of people were buying it. So if you want in on this deal I wouldn't wait for doubles as they probably will be out by this weekend.

I also wanted to remind everyone to look at expiration dates because a lot of what I saw with the Kraft is that they expire in November.

Cheap Foil At Albertson's

I went to Albertson's yesterday and found Reynolds Aluminum foil on clearance for only $1.00. My store had the grilling foil and the recycled variety( and there were only two left). I used the $.75/1 coupon that expires 9/30 (I am not sure of the insert) and got each one for only $.25 each. Various stores ( I have seen displays at Albertson's and Fred Meyer) also have try me for free rebate coupons by the displays of the grilling foil. Keep your eyes peeled and snag one of those. It should turn into a small money maker.

They also had the store brand 37.5 foot heavy duty foil on clearance for $1.00. I grabbed some of these too. It is a fantastic price. I was at the Columbia Village Albertson's and they had about twenty foils left as of yesterday morning. Hopefully you'll be able to find some too.

Albertson's 8/25

The Albertson's ad this week is not as exciting as I hoped it would be. But that's ok. If we get doubles on Sunday then it should make for a few great deals.

Here are my favorites:

Quaker Sale: $1.00 after in ad Manufactures coupon of $3.00/5 Items included:

Oatmeal Pancake mix 32oz.
Chewy Granola bars
Captain Crunch
Life Cereal
Aunt Jemima Pancake mix 32 oz.
Oat Squares Cereal
True Delights Granola Bars

If we get double on Sunday and you have the $1.00/2 Granola Bar coupon from ebay then they would only be $.60 each.

$1.40 each When you use $3.00/5 in ad coupon
Items include:

Quaker Instant Oatmeal
Old Fashion Oats
Aunt Jemima Syrup 24 oz.

Snack Mania Promo: $1.75 each when you buy 4
Items included:

Ruffles Potato Chips
Blue Diamond Almonds
Doritos
Fritos or Cheetos
Tostitos Salsa or Con Queso Dip

There are lots of $.88 sale items but my favorite is:

Act 2 popcorn $.88
use $.40/1 from
final:
final with doubles: $.04

Other good deal if we get doubles:

Nestle Refrigerated Cookie Dough $2.50
use $1.00/1 from 8/22 SS
final with double: $.50

Nesquick Single Serve $1.29
use $1.00/1 not sure what insert
final with doubles: $.29

Oreo Caksters $1.00 (3 pack)
use $1.00/2 from here
final with doubles: free when you buy 2

There is also a Conagra Promo buy 10 items get $5.00 oyno. But the prices are not that great for me.

I will post more if we do in fact get doubles.

Keeping Family First

I remember when I first started couponing, I couldn't wait to get all the great deals. I dragged my kids from store to store trying to get as many as I could. On Sundays I would cut my coupons and spend half the day making strategies for deals I would do that week. I look back now and laugh at how silly I was. I didn't realize that there are always good deals to be had and that sales come in cycles. In many ways I regret doing this because it consumed a lot of my time which I could have been spending with my family.

This summer more than any other time in my life I have realized just how short life is and how precious and fleeting those moments with our family are. We only get one life and every minute we spend during it should be spent wisely. This past week I received some really bad news about my mom. It got me to thinking just how important it is to spend time with those that we love. Our society has gotten away from focusing on our families. Life tends to rush us from one place to another and spending time with our families can kind of get lost in cracks. We have to be conscious of this and make every effort to not just be with our families but to spend time with them.

So today I just wanted to remind all of you that couponing, although it can be very financially rewarding, does take time and if you let it then it can really take away from those you love. That is why I don't do any couponing on Sunday (not even posts). It is my day to spend exclusively with my family.

With that said I just want to encourage all of you to take the day off, spend time with your kids, go for a walk with your husband, call your sister, just spend time with all those you coupon for. The sales will wait, the deals will come around again. Make today a day to put your family first!

Flue Shot Freebie At Rite Aid

I always put off getting my flue shot. This should be a great motivator for me. You all should know by now how much I love Rite Aid.

Thanks to A Thrifty Mom for this great information!

If you plan to get a flu shot this year you may want to think about getting it at Rite Aid and get $100 in coupons.

Their Public Relations Dept. sent me this info today,

It’s that time of year again – time to get a flu shot! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that everyone 6 months and older get a flu shot as soon as it is available, as it’s the single best way to prevent the flu.

Rite Aid pharmacists are now offering flu shots for $24.99 at more than 3,000 pharmacies nationwide. But it’s not just your health you’re saving. Anyone who gets a flu shot at Rite Aid will receive a free coupon booklet that offers $100 in savings, while supplies last. And for the first time this year, allwellness+ members who receive a flu shot from Rite Aid pharmacists will receive credit for a prescription filled and get 25 wellness+ points putting them that much closer to the next saving tier or health screening (except for the prescriptions exempted by law including prescriptions paid for by federal healthcare or those filled in New York or New Jersey).

Planning For Next Weeks Shopping

I like to start planning for what deals I am going to get the next week on Fridays. This gives me lots of time to collect my coupons and know where I will be going and what I will be spending. Plan, plan, plan is my motto for couponing. (I hate going to the store and wandering around looking for good deals. Yuck! Also I don't like doing this stuff on Sunday my day to rest and Saturday is always so busy with family. ) This is what I am liking for next week:

Rite Aid:

Royal gelatin dessert get $1 +up wyb 4/$1

Kotex lightdays pantiliners 18-22 ct $.99
use $1.00/1 from July Video Values (no longer available to get but if you already watched video)
or $1.00/1 from home mailer
final: free

Listerine mouthwash 500 ml $3.99 get $2 +up
use $2.00/1 from here
pay : $1.99 get $2.00 +up
final: free

Kerasal Foot Ointment 30 grams $6.99 get $6 scr #33
use $2.00/1 from 6/06 SS
final: free plus $1.01 moneymaker (after SCR)

Cramp 911 Roll-On 4.5 mL $6.99 get $6.99 scr #58
final: free (after SCR)

Go here to see a scan of the ad and some deal ideas.

Thanks Iheartriteaid!

Walgreens:

They have tons of in ad coupon deals for last minute back to school shopping none that really appealed to me.

Dry Erase markers $.99

Kraft Mac and Cheese $.69 with in ad coupon limit 3
use $1.00/3 from new Albertson's fall coupon book (is a manufactures coupon)
final:$1.07 when you buy 3 or about $.35 each

Reusable shopping bag 2/$1.00 limit 4 with in ad coupon

Listerine $1.99 with in store coupon
use $2.00/1 from here
final: free

Go here to see the ad. Thanks I heartwags!

Target:

Shout Stain Remover $2.54 regular price
use (3) $2.00/2 from 8/1 SS
and (2) $2.00/3 target coupon (not sure what insert I bought 10 online for just $1.25 shipped) Idaho did not get this one.
final: $.87 each when you buy 6 at a time

(I did my calculations wrong right before I bought my coupons and thought I was getting the Shout for $.54 each. I was so bummed when my husband pointed out my error. Oh well, still not too bad of a price. I think I am going to stock up.)The target coupons expire on 8/28 so I would hurry and get your coupons if you want to get this deal.

Go here to see a list of deals for Target next week. Nothing was too great for me.

This week it looks like possibly Rite Aid, and Target. I am up in the air about Walgreens (just may not be worth it for me). I will definitely be shopping at my local farmers stand too. If you have never gone to one then you totally should. Really great produce that is normally cheaper than Walmart. I just discovered one that is close to where I live which sells nothing but organic produce. They have really reasonable prices too. (It's on Meridian road as you go towards Kuna).

What are you all shopping for next week? Let me know if you run across any fantastic deals. Happy shopping!

Where Are The Drugstore Deals?

If you have been reading this week you may wonder where all the drug store deals are? Well since we have been staycationing this week I completely forgot to post them. Personally I have already been to Rite Aid twice this week. I didn't really like the deals at Walgreens so I won't be there.(plus why go there when Rite Aid is so awesome.)

My favorite deal is:

Veet $6.49
use $3.00/1 here or here
also use $3.00/1 in ad coupon
final: $.49
Plus if you do this twice then you get a free glam bag full of samples and coupons. (SCR #564)

Mavin of Savin has lots of other good deals at Rite Aid here and if you like Walgreens then check out her post here. Remember that you only have until Saturday to get in on these deals.

Here's the deal scenario I did this week at Rite Aid:

1 Veet $6.49
1 24 Pack Coke $7.99
1 Cheer Laundry soap $4.99
2-St. Ives hand lotion $.99
Total before coupons: $21.45

coupons used:
$3.00/1 veet manufactures coupon here
$3.00/1 veet in ad coupon
$1.00/1 coke 24 pack peelie on pack
$2.00/1 Cheer coupon 7/25 RP
2- $1.00/1 St. Ives facebook coupon here (must like them to get coupon)
$1.00/1 St. Ives video values coupon from July
$5.00/$20.00 Rite Aid purchase video values coupon
$3.00 +up Reward from previous purchase

final out of pocket: $1.09 ($.63 of that was tax)

I then got back $1.00 +up reward for the Coke and a $1.00 +up reward for the Cheer. It was totally awesome.

Kmart Super Doubles

This all coupons up to $0.99 at Kmart will be doubled when you use your Shop Your Rewards Card! There is a limit of 5 coupons per day. They will be doing this until August 21st. Last time they did this Idaho was not participating but the list of participating stores this time says it is. I would definitely call ahead to make sure. Go here to find out if your store is also participating.

I have to say that I don't really like to shop at the Kmart in Boise. I always feel really dirty after going there. And if you go in the morning the only register that is ever open is the customer service desk and there is always a long line. Seem like to much work just to double 5 coupons up to $.99. Not a very great value.

BOGO Athenos Feta Cheese Coupon

I am so excited about this Facebook coupon for BOGO Athenos Feta Cheese. You just have to like them here and then you can print. (It's a bricks coupon that pops up.) Our family has a favorite pizza place that makes a pizza with feta, greek olives, spinach and mozzarella with only a little olive oil and garlic for the sauce. This is my all time favorite pizza. Since I love to make pizzas at home I can't wait to use my coupons to make my favorite pizza. My secret is to cook it on the grill so that it tastes authentic. I am getting hungry just thinking about it.

Cake Mix Cookie Recipes

I found a bunch of cake mix cookie recipes to use with all those cake mixes you may have picked up at Albertson's from the last sale. I plan on giving cake mix(probably in a mason jar), frosting and these recipes to neighbors and teachers this year for Christmas. It's never too soon to start thinking about presents.

Cake Mix Recipe 1:

1 pkg. any flavor Pillsbury Plus Cake Mix

1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened

1 egg

Combine all ingredients at low speed until thoroughly moistened. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 9-12 minutes. Cool two minutes; remove from pans.

Tips: If using chocolate cake mix, add 2 Tbsp. water to ingredients

If desired, stir in 1 c. chocolate chips or 1/2 c. chopped nuts.

If desired, frost cookies with your favorite flavor of frosting.

For sandwich cookies, spread frosting between 2 cookies.

Cake Mix Cookie Recipe 2:

Yields about 4 dozen cookies

1 box cake mix (any variety)

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (can substitute caramel or peanut butter chips or do a combination)

1/ 2 -1 cup oatmeal (I always put in as much as I can!)

1 /2 cup oil

2 eggs, slightly beaten

1/ 2 cup raisins (optional)

1 tsp. vanilla (optional)

nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients, blending well. If the mixture is too stiff, add a little water. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute before removing form the cookie sheets.

For altitudes above 3500 feet, add 1/ 4 cup flour to dry cake mix.

Variation: Use white cake mix and add a pudding mix. I added strawberry, for tasty pink cookies. If you use pudding, you will need to add some water (about 1/4 cup). Also, the pudding tends to make the cookies sweeter.

Cake Mix Cookie Recipe 3:

Yields about 2 dozen.

1 (9 oz.) pkg. yellow cake mix (or your favorite flavor)

2/3 cup oatmeal

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted

1 egg

*1/2 cup chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peanut butter chips, M&Ms (your preference)

* For a healthier cookie, substitute raisins in place of the chips.

Preheat oven to 375. In a mixing bowl, beat the cake mix, oatmeal, butter and egg. Stir in the chips. Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately remove to wire racks to cool.

I think they all look so good. I may have to make some soon just to see what they are like. Yummy!

Albertson's Preview 8/18

The Albertson's preview for the ad that starts 8/18 is up on Pinching Your Pennies here. I don't think that we will see any doublers this week since we just had them. There are no big promos and it looks like a really slow week. Here are some of my favorite deals:

Strawberries 4lb. $5.98 limit 2

Coke 2 liters $.88 each when you buy 3
Look for peelies for $1.00/3
final: $.54 each wyb 3

Wacky Mac Spirals $1.00
use $.50/1 from 5/16 SS
final: $.50

Skippy Peanut Butter $1.50
use $1.00/2 in ad manufactures coupon
final: $1.00

Are Buying Coupons Online Worth It?

I have been asked by many people while on my coupon adventures if buying coupons from the internet is worth it? Do they really come? If you pay for the coupons then how much money do you really save?

In response to this yes for me buying coupons is totally worth it. (Most of the time.)
There have been many instances where I would have missed out on a deal if I hadn't gotten coupons from ebay because my area didn't get the coupon that I needed. I have been able to get Capri Suns, mac and cheese, cereal, soap, sugar, and many other products for just the price of tax and the coupon because I thought ahead and bought them.

In fact I was able to do that this week with the Albertson's sale. Here's what I did:

Bought from Ebay (last Tuesday):
20-$.75/2 when you buy both frosting and cake mix from Betty Crocker
Paid: $1.98 (shipping included)

20- $.50/1 Old El Paso Product Any
Paid: $8.24 (shipping included)
Yes this is a lot to pay for the coupons but wait and see what I did with them.

Then I called my local Albertson's store(On Wednesday) and special ordered 20 cake mixes, 20 frostings and 20 Old El Paso re-fried beans.
I took a chance that there would be doublers since it was around the 15th of the month and waited until Monday to do my deals.

I did five transactions that looked like this:

3 Cake Mixes $.50 each (with 10 item discount)
3 frosting mixes $1.00 each (with 10 item discount)
4 Refried Beans $.50 each (with 10 item discount)

Coupons used:
3- $.75/2 cake/frosting coupons
4- .50/1 beans coupons
3- doublers
total: free (paid $.26 tax) for each transaction

Then I did 1- other transaction:

5 cake mixes $.50 each (with 10 item discount)
5 frostings $1.00 each (with 10 item discount)

Coupons used:
5-$.75/2 cake and frosting
3-doublers
total: $1.50 (plus $.32 tax)

So I paid $3.12 out of pocket at the store. If you add in the $10.22 I spent on coupons then I only paid $.22 for each item (this includes tax). This is a great price point for everything that I got. Although I had to spend a little bit on the coupons; I was able to lower the amount of money spent at the store therefore it was worth it to me.

About 98% of the time this is what happens when I have purchased coupons. The trick is to order them as early as possible and to be prepared that maybe the deal wont work out.
I have had several times when I have gotten coupons and the deal was not as good as the one I had planned. This isn't a problem because I take the cost of the coupons out of the weekly budget no matter whether I used them or not; that way I don't go over budget that week.

Also I also would mention that I only purchase things from ebay. I have looked into coupon clipping services and just don't feel like they are a good enough value for me. On ebay I choose to buy only the buy it now coupons with free or very low shipping. And I only buy from sellers that have really good feedback. By doing this I have always gotten my coupons on time for the sale and it is always what I expect it to be.

Overall buying coupons for me is a great way to stock up on things my family uses. What have all of you experienced when buying coupons? Do you find it a help or a hindrance?

Side Note: My family is not going to eat all the cake mix and frosting that I got. I am going to use it for gifts to neighbors, and teachers around Christmas time. My friend has a really yummy recipe on how to make cookies out of cake mix. I'll post it when I get it.

My Super Nap And A Heads Up

Today has been such a crazy crazy day. I did lots of shopping this morning. With kids and husband in tote I was totally wiped out when I got home and sat down on the couch to take a small rest. Well I totally fell asleep (kind of just passed out). My husband did the honorable thing and let me sleep. Two and a half hours later I woke up.
It was so awesome. I haven't gotten a real nap on a week day since my son was a baby so this was wonderful. Anyways my super great nap is why there have been no posts today. I will be back tomorrow with a few things but this weeks going to be pretty slow on my end. We are having a stacation this week and my family is taking up more of my time.

Heads Up: I heard from an Albertson's employee today that on the 25th they will be having another Quaker sale. If you have done these before then you'll know that they are usually smoking hot. I don't have any details yet but I am thinking that there will be more doublers that Sunday. I already bought some granola bar coupons on ebay. If you are feeling risky you might want to buy some coupons soon. Coupons tend to go for a lot as it gets closer to a sale. I was able to get 20- $1.00/2 coupons for Quaker granola bars today for only $1.75 on a buy it now auction. I will post more when I find out more on the sale.

(I found this picture of a kitten who fell asleep while eating. So cute. This is exactly how I felt today.)

From Idaho With Love: Day 5

Every day this week I am going to tell you about some of my favorite cheap family outings right here in Idaho. You see my husband has taken next week off for vacation. The catch is that we opted to not go anywhere far and to spend our vacation money on a new bed and couch (we desperately needed them. Our bed was a hand-me-down and was about 20+ years old and our couch well I can't tell you how many back aches I got from it.)
Since we are staying around here, I am in charge of coming up with fun things for us to do. I thought I would include all of you in my planning. All the places that I am going to tell you about my family loves and have a lot of fun at but don't break the bank.

Today is my last day of doing these posts and I have a great one for you. It's the Discovery Center of Idaho located at131 Myrtle St., Boise . DCI is an interactive science center providing exhibits and educational programs that offer authentic, sensory experiences making the sciences, math and technology tangible. Imagine the possibilities. Explore the unexpected. Discover the wonder of science. Challenge your senses at the Discovery Center! See, touch and hear more than 130 hands-on science exhibits. You'll be surprised at what you can make happen . . . blow a 3-foot bubble, build an arch and capture your shadow.
The normal cost is:
General: $6.50
Seniors: $5.50
Children (3-17): $4.00
Members/Children 2 & under: Free

But from now until November 19th every Friday you can get in for FREE!
Yes free. We are so excited about this. In the past we had a membership and didn't use it enough to make it worth our while. We do love going there though and it's even better for free!

Go here to find out more and to see what their hours are.

If you want to get a free treat after doing all that science then I would suggest going to Arctic Circle for a free courtesy cone. They come in chocolate, vanilla or twist. They can also be dipped in chocolate, bubble gum or peanut butter. I suggest trying chocolate dipped in peanut butter. So good!

No Eating Out In August Challange

This week is over halfway through and we are still under budget. We spent nothing yesterday on eating out. In fact, I was really busy and we normally just eat out when life gets too crazy. Instead we opted to have sandwiches which are quick and easy. I am really proud of us for sticking to our guns. For a minute last night I didn't think that we were going to make it.

This week total is $8.47.
The total for the month is $14.42.

Here are the guidelines we set up for the challenge:

1. Reduce our $20.00 a week budget for eating out to $10.00 a week. Putting the extra $10.00 into our Christmas fund.

2. Try to not eat out more than one time a week. (This is particularly going to be challenging for my husband because the people at his work love to eat out and he loves to go with them.)

3. Work or church related eating out that we do not pay for does not count.

4. We will track our progress daily and report back here. I am hoping this will motivate us since we are going to have more accountability to all of you.

Good luck to all of you who may be challenging yourselves to not eat out also.
