Get Organized: Day 2 Results

Today quest for cleanliness took much more time than I expected. Once I got doing it I realized things were messier than I imagined. But with the help of my two kiddos the hall closet is clean and organized. (I should have taken a picture of the big bag of stuff that I threw out. It surprised me how many things were just trash in there.) Go here to see what it looked like before.
Here it is:

The best part is that my kids puzzles are organized and won't fall off the shelves and get all mixed together any more.

Here's a great tip for organizing puzzles. Put all the pieces into a zip-lock bag, cut out the front of the puzzle box (so you know what the puzzle should look like) and include that in the bag. By doing this you save so much room and puzzle pieces tend to stay together more. If the bag you put them in has writing, I like to face the box fronts on the clear side. It just makes them look better.

I then put all the puzzles together a basket. I am hoping that this will minimize losing pieces. It has already made a lot of extra room.

Oh and I was kind of really motivated today and started (well almost completed) my organization project for tomorrow. Yea I know I'm an overachiever. Check in the morning to see my scary pantry and it's transformation.

Garden's Alive $25.00 Off Coupon = Free Stuff

Awhile ago I bought some bulbs from Garden's Alive. I was skeptical about them actually showing up but they came and look great in my yard. Yesterday I got a catalog in the mail from them. On the front cover there is a $25.00 off any purchase coupon that states that if the item is less than $25.00 then it is free. I called to ask if it also includes the shipping and it does. This is what I ordered:

1 Partriot Blueberry plant $16.95 (catalog # 3521 )
shipping and handling $7.95
Total: $24.90
Minus $25.00 coupon
final: Free

They didn't even ask for my credit card or anything. How awesome it that. They told me that this item doesn't ship until September for fall planting but hey I can wait for these prices. I am really excited because when this plant matures it can yield up to 20 lbs. of blueberries. Yay!

If you have ordered from them before or if you have signed up to get there catalog be on the look out for it in the mail. If you haven't signed up for a catalog yet go here to do it. I have heard that they run these type of promotions a lot so I am hoping for even more free stuff in the future.

Also I ordered over the phone and it was super easy. It maybe took a total of 5 minutes. Yay again!

Rite Aid Stop: Making Some Money

I was again at Rite Aid this week. I just can't pass up their great deals. Like my Albertsons post earlier there is no picture due to my terrible camera.
Here's the deal scenario that I did:

1 pack Easy Ups $8.99
1 Pampers Diaper Wipes $3.49
1 Herbal Essence Shampoo $2.50
1 Herbal Essence Hair spray $2.50
1 Pro-Glide Razor $9.99
1 Crest Toothpaste $2.49
total: $29.96

coupons used
$1.50/1 Pampers Easy Ups 8/1 P&G
Free wipes when you buy Pampers 8/1 P&G
$2.00/1 Herbal Essence Rite Aid coupon from P&G rebate book
Free Herbal Essence styler when you buy Shampoo, Conditioner or styler from 8/1 P&G
$4.00/1 Pro-Glide Razor 8/1 P&G
$.75/1 Crest toothpaste from 8/1 P&G
$5.00 off $25.00 purchase coupon here
(I also paid with a $3.00 +up reward from last week)
final oop: 8.92

And I got back $2.00 +Up reward for Pampers, $2.00 +Up reward for Herbal Essence, and a $1.50 +Up reward for the Crest. And I was able to submit for a $5.00 single check rebate for the razor and a $2.00 single check rebate for the pampers. It turned out to be a $3.58 money maker.

No Eating Out In August Challange

For most of yesterday we were good about eating out. But on a whim for family home evening we decided to get ice cream at Arctic Circle. We spent $2.20 on ice cream cones. I opted to get a courtesy cone (which are free) for my daughter and I instead of having to pay for one. They were so good. You can even get them dipped. They have chocolate, bubble gum and peanut butter dips. I got the peanut butter one. So worth the trip. Yum!

Here are the guidelines we set up for the challenge:

1. Reduce our $20.00 a week budget for eating out to $10.00 a week. Putting the extra $10.00 into our Christmas fund.

2. Try to not eat out more than one time a week. (This is particularly going to be challenging for my husband because the people at his work love to eat out and he loves to go with them.)

3. Work or church related eating out that we do not pay for does not count.

4. We will track our progress daily and report back here. I am hoping this will motivate us since we are going to have more accountability to all of you.

Anyone else who would like to join in on the challenge feel free to. Of course you can change your guidelines to fit your situation. The main point is to do better than you already are. I would love to hear how you are doing if you decide to participate. I'll let you know how I did today in the morning and will have a grand total for the week. Good luck to all you who are joining in!

A Few More Albertson's Deals and My Trip

I went to Albertsons yesterday to use my doublers. When I got home I took a picture of all my great deals. Then last night I went to download the picture and my camera went crazy and erased it. Lets just say that I did not have very kind words for my camera. Since I wasn't going to pull everything back out to retake it there is no picture. :(
Here's what I got though:

4 Prego Pasta Sauce
3 Bell Jar Lids
2 Bell Canning Funnels
3 Fritos Chips
3 Fritos Dips
2 packages Corn Tortillas (used a rain check from when they were $1.29 each doubled and got them for free)
3 Libby's Canned Corn
2 boxes Honey Nut Cherrios
4 Boxes Ziploc Bags

You can find out what I did with all these items here and here.

And there were a couple of surprise deals that I got:

Bell Freezer container $2.49 Clearenced (I got 1)
used $1.00/1 from 8/1 SS
used 1 doubler
final: $.49

Bell Elite Canning Jars 4- half pint jars $3.99 clearenced (I got 2)
used $1.00/1 from 8/1 SS
used 1 doubler
final: $1.99

Colgate Cavity Protection Toothpaste 8.2 oz. $1.89 (on special) (I got 1)
used $1.00/1 tear pad coupon in store( I was at the Overland and Orchard one in Boise)
used 1 doubler
final: free plus $.11 overage

Colgate Kids Toothpaste $2.39 (I got 2)
used $1.00/1 tear pad coupons in store (I was at the Overland and Orchard one in Boise)
used 1 douber for each
final: $.39

Revelon Emery Boards $1.99 ( I got 1)
used $1.00/1 not sure what insert
used 1 doubler
final: free

They also have Pepperidge Farm cookies on sale for $1.99 and there is a coupon here for $1.00/1 so they would be free after coupons. I ran out of printer ink last night so I didn't get any.

I also bought a gallon of milk. Including tax I spent $17.78 for $60.39 worth of products (before coupons). That's roughly a 70% savings. Yay! What deals have you all found this week?

Get Organized: Day Two

Today I am tackleing my hallway closet. This is the closet were I keep the kids games, craft, food storage and various other things. It kind of has turned into my catch all closet. I am really bad about getting stuff out of here and then just throwing it back in. My kids also like to rummage through here and make a huge mess out of the games and puzzles. They are so mixed up. Here's my messy closet:

I am planning on going through all the crafts and games and putting them in the correct places. I am also going to wipe down all the shelves (my house gets really dusty). Also as I mentioned last night I spilled a container of pins everywhere and haven't found them all. Lets just hope no one steps on one. Yikes! Well I have some work ahead of me today. Check back tonight to see how it went.
